Image Charge

The potential at a radial distance from an infinitely long wire carrying a line charge is given by Equation (4). The radius 'a' is the arbitrary radius at which V=0 is chosen. Such a wire is placed above a grounded conducting plane. The wire runs directly above and parallel to the plane. Demonstrate that you understand the method of image charges by finding the surface charge induced in the grounded plane. Figure 1
